Perry Electronics Lab History
The heart of Perry Electronics Lab has been around for 48 years.
Working in a TV Repair shop as a young boy showed me that electronics
was a challenging and exciting line of work. After college I signed
on with the US Navy for a 4 year tour. There I trained in radio
communications, electronics and teletype communications and repair.
Returning home I studied color television repair and worked in that
field for 23 years.
One day a large corporation represenative entered my business and asked
if I would be interested in working on some of their equipment. My answer
of yes prompted an interview with their electronics staff. There were
5 companies being interviewed and I was given the opportunity of doing
this work for the corporation. I was told that it would not be much
work, perhaps 10 to 20 units per month. I was also told that they needed
about a 48 to 72 hour turn around on repairs.
In about the 9th month of this venture I was doing 100 to 130 units per
month. About the 32 month of this venture the corporation decided they were
going to take the business inhouse as they were paying me too much money.
The actual manufacture of the electronic units that I had been repairing
liked the warranty and non warranty repairs that I did so they offered me
a service area of 7 southern midwest states. In just a few months I was
almost to the point of being over run with repairs. Word of mouth made it
impossible for anyone to control which states my repairs came from and so
it was a fast pace of growth.
As all of this growth was going on the corporation that I had originally
started with was having great difficulty repairing the electronic units and
asked if I would take it back. At the same time another division of that same
corporation started having me repair electrical harnesses that went on
their trencers and tractors. My work load was way out of hand.
My son, Robert TROY Woolery worked for a company in Illnois called Life
Fitness. He did repairs, calibrations and maintained the software package
that kept the records of repairs. He also set up the design to enter that
company into the IS2000 program.
I enticed Troy to come to Perry and look over the situation that I was in
and give me his input. His input was, "Dad you need help. I believe that
I had better come to work for you".
We have been working side by side for several years now and we are the
oldest Service Center for Radiodetection. We have also been told that
we do more warranty work for Radiodetection than all of their service
centers combined.
We continue to maintain the best equiment for repairs in our electronic
field and keep up with the latest repair proceedures. We strive to give
the fastest turn around time in the industry and sincerely work at being
the best service center in the world.
Give us a call or drop by for coffee. You will find us here or at our
